Westside 3rd Street

Many neighborhoods can not maintain themselves with the level of competition. They may get pulled into other neighborhoods or they just fade out. Only discuss those areas from LOS ANGELES that are gone.

Westside 3rd Street

Unread post by yoda100 » November 3rd, 2018, 1:58 pm

A small varrio, they were around in the early 80s, it was a short lived gang, and it had no affiliation to the "eastside 3rd street gang", their hangout was on 2nd & Beaudry.

Very short lived varrio, i think like1977 / 1978, that's it.
It came out while ES3rdSt was still out around in boyle heights, but WS died out even before the ES hanged up its shoes.

Might as well put in here as defunct also - the East Side 3RD ST Locos, Midgets & Tiny Locos, those were their cliques.

I wonder why both the westside 3rd street, and eastside 3rd street varrios both died out, seems strange.

I don't why but the vato gibby from wf had said that one of their homeboys drowned a 3st vato at hollenbeck park lake and that took the air out of them. I know they had a lot beef with both wf and pf.

As to the west side one, I don't know, but Diamond basically was top dog in all the surrounding area around there.

They were not related. The ES 3rd Street in Boyle Heights kicked it at Hollenbeck Park and All Nations Hall. The WS 3rd Street might have been around before the ES started up and died out in the 70’s. I’ve spoken to members from both sides.

In 1986, Anthony CHICO Barrera was stabbed and thrown in the lake at Hollenbeck Park. He was actually wanted at the time for killing a vato from WF. He didn’t drown though, he was pulled out of the water by his homies and he died at the hospital. I have the newspaper article on it. After his death his name was added to the mural already being painted in ELA 13 Tiny Dukes varrio. The mural was on Fickett just south of Brooklyn and was seen in the movie Colors, the scene where Pac Man sprays the kids face with green paint. Ironically, the character who’s face was painted under Chico’s name in the movie was supposed to be from WF.

Just some more info on this story, ELA 13 and 3rd didn’t get along but had a truce at the time Chico was killed. When Chico died so tragically, they decided to put his name on their mural. It actually said, “In Loving Memory of a Homeboy Anthony “Chico” Barrera de la Third Street from all East LA XIII”. Unfortunately the entire building that had the mural was demolished a few years ago.

Also, there was another Chico from 3rd who was also killed by WF. He was shot in the face in the 70’s.
